Francofête 2019,
Poster Development

Challenge

The goal of this mandate was to develop an interactive iPad application that encompasses the work of (ANDY GOLDSWORTHY), the legendary land artist. The overall objective was to create an interesting e-book that would explore the work and world that Goldsworthy created. This mandate didn't contain many constraints, which let me explore many different possibilities. During my research, I found out that most of his preliminary artworks were created in a forest close to his childhood home in Leeds, England. Since he discovered his passion for land art in this location, it gave me an idea.
Francofête is a recurring event held by the french program of Dawson College. Nick and I have been lucky enough to create the visual identity two years running. The main purpose of the event is to bring attention to the french language and everything Dawson has to offer regarding it. Although the thing different about 2019 was that there was a more in-depth theme. They wanted the poster to highlight the french language while also being friendly towards immigrants.

Perspective

They wanted to focus their eye on the french language. So after many hours brainstorming the idea of welcoming immigrants with suitcases and many other concepts, we landed on the eye you see above.
And quite literally, its highlighting the french language, which would be the accent grave. As you can see the accent is almost twice as big as the typography very much highlighting the french language.

Outcome

The final poster was a very visually appealing graphic contrasted nicely with the gridded typography below. The eye has a sense of roughness to it while focusing itself on the french language. The eye and the type are on two different planes which eventually meet in the middle, creating the visual you see above.
