Femmes et Pouvoir d'Agir,
Poster Development

Challenge

The goal of this mandate was to develop an interactive iPad application that encompasses the work of (ANDY GOLDSWORTHY), the legendary land artist. The overall objective was to create an interesting e-book that would explore the work and world that Goldsworthy created. This mandate didn't contain many constraints, which let me explore many different possibilities. During my research, I found out that most of his preliminary artworks were created in a forest close to his childhood home in Leeds, England. Since he discovered his passion for land art in this location, it gave me an idea.
The only difficulty pertaining to this mandate comes without question, a man designing a poster displaying power to women, a very important topic disregarded on a daily basis. Putting myself in the feet of a woman who has been treated poorly her whole life posed to be quite difficult. I had to figure out other ways to achieve this, such as talking to friends who are women as well as conducting quite a lot of research on the topic.

Perspective

The process I ended up focusing on was highlighting the power women have in their hands, this was done by creating a visually dramatic poster with a feminine aspect to it. The main purpose of this poster was not only create a visually empowering poster directed towards women.
But also to create a visual that pertains to men as well, showing them there is a problem in the current way we do things, and change must come.

Outcome

The focal point of this poster is simple, a feminine bomb. The pattern placed on-top of it is the extremely recognizable white polkadot on top of a red, derived from the (WE CAN DO IT) advertisement of the 1940s. The type has been drawn quite quickly to highlight the urgency of this matter.
