Cycle1K,
Brand & Identity

Challenge

The goal of this mandate was to develop an interactive iPad application that encompasses the work of (ANDY GOLDSWORTHY), the legendary land artist. The overall objective was to create an interesting e-book that would explore the work and world that Goldsworthy created. This mandate didn't contain many constraints, which let me explore many different possibilities. During my research, I found out that most of his preliminary artworks were created in a forest close to his childhood home in Leeds, England. Since he discovered his passion for land art in this location, it gave me an idea.
The main difficulty I faced with this brand identity was locating the right icon to represent Cycle1K. A recycling company is usually looked at as a bland business, but when given to opportunity to re-think the way we recycle, even only for a class project, it got quite interesting. It was decided that they would pick up recycling just as a normal company would, but they would then re-format the paper and return in back to it's sender. It goes full circle.

Perspective

The process that was taken for this identity came with a couple hiccups, but once the icon was found, it was all history. A deer was chosen as the icon to brand Cycle1K for one simple reason, each year or so a deer looses it's antlers and they continuously grow back.
Which tied in quite nicely to the outlook 1K has on recycling. Not to mention it's a beautiful looking animal with a very interesting form to be played with.

Outcome

The solution that came out of the process behind this branding was quite interesting. Not only did a logo come to life, an entire identity did. Which quotes on letterheads and business cards stating;

(THIS LETTER WAS MADE WITH YOUR PAPER)

This created the starting point to a very interesting brand identity with many possibilities to be played with.
