Andy Goldsworthy,
Passage Application

The goal of this mandate was to develop an interactive iPad application that encompasses the work of, the legendary land artist. The overall objective was to create an interesting e-book that would explore the work and world that Goldsworthy created. This mandate didn't contain many constraints, which let me explore many different possibilities. During my research, I found out that most of his preliminary artworks were created in a forest close to his childhood home in Leeds, England. Since he discovered his passion for land art in this location, it gave me an idea.

Perspective

After the development of the physical book, I wanted to deviate away from where my head was originally, that's how this project came to life. The main inspiration behind this interactive e-book was to place you in Goldsworthy's shoes, or better yet, his head. You're exploring the place where his career began, just as he did for the first time when he was younger.
There is a bigger picture behind this idea, the published e-book would be a map of the world, you'd be able to zoom in on, for example, the forest close to Leeds where it all began and you'd be able to see his first projects. You could make your way around the world through his shoes, that's the focal point of this concept.

Outcome

From an aesthetic standpoint, I focused on a very plain map with images and type located edge to edge. You're able to follow the paths provided if you wish or deviate and browse through the information at your own pace. This e-book is very much in a (BANDERSNATCH) style, essentially this means you choose your own outcome. The reason this was done was to give you a feel for his eye, when he goes out to create a piece he follows no path, he lets his instincts guide him, just as you can do while navigating this e-book.

this e-book was part of a larger project, a publication was developed, focusing on the cover. view
